Warren Platner Dining Table - 1966
Warren Platner transformed steel wire into a sculptural furniture collection, creating what is now considered a design icon of the modern era.

The Platner collection's unique harmonious forms are produced by welding steel wire rods to circular frames, producing a moire effect and capturing the decorative, gentle, graceful quality that Platner sought to achieve.

All metal components are finished in bright nickel with a clear lacquer protective coating. The Platner collection also includes a side chair, lounge chair and stool.

Warren Platner (1919-2006) was studding architecture at the Cornwell University. His very first job was to work for Raymond Loewy und I.M. Pei. Later he worked on the side of Eero Saarinen on the design of the „Dulles International Airport” in Washington.

In the 60's, the American Warren Platner developed a furniture collection for Knoll that was very impressive, not just on account of its very elaborate assembly, but also due to a certain Moire-effect created by the individually welded round steel bars. The collection, consisting of a dining table, side table, armchair, chair and stool was immediately a great success.
