Eero Saarinen's architecture and design career was tragically cut short in 1961 at the relatively young age of 51. Nevertheless, Eero Saarinen enoyed a highly productive working life that spanned more than 20 years and during this time and was responsible for some of the seminal furniture and building designs of the twentieth century.

Saarinen's father was the celebrated Finnish architect, Eilel Saarinen - the first president of the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Saarinen was involved in the design of more than 60 buildings during his rather short architectural career. Several of them are counted among the most powerful American iconic landmarks, and include his much-praised masterpiece, the TWA Terminal at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (1956 to 1962).
